Increasing Reproductive Choices Newsletter OCTOBER 2019
In 2017 Women’s Health Grampians and the University of Melbourne conducted research into GPs and unintended pregnancy in the Grampians, Pyrenees and Wimmera Areas. We found limited services for supporting women with an unintended pregnancy.
As a result of the research, the Department of Health and Human Services funded the Reproductive Choices Project, which has been conducted by Women’s Health Grampians to improve knowledge in general practice of abortion services and referral pathways.
Now we need your input again!
Currently we are conducting research to determine if there have been any changes in knowledge or attitudes since the baseline survey and the start of our Reproductive Choices Project. The findings will be used to inform future training and health promotion activities in the region.
If you are a GP or health professional working in the space of sexual and reproductive health, or likely to work with women presenting with an unintended pregnancy and are interested in being part of this exciting research, please email marieke@whg.org.au who can provide you with details on how to complete the survey.

A summary of the project findings will be made available on the Women’s Health Grampians website later this year.
Many thanks for your assistance in this!

We recently presented our findings to date at the SexRurality conference held by the Centre for Excellence in Rural Sexual Health (CERSH) in Creswick.

CERSH

The vision of the Centre for Excellence in Rural Sexual Health (CERSH) is that all rural Victorians have access to quality sexual health care, information and support that is tailored to their individual needs.

The purpose of the Centre is to design, implement and evaluate programs that provide practical solutions for the improvement of sexual health in both the Hume and Loddon Mallee regions.

In achieving this, the work program of the Centre and the evaluation of our activities, is based on the following priority areas:

  1. Rural Workforce
  2. Leadership, research, evaluation and knowledge sharing
  3. Affordable reproductive health

The goals that CERSH is working towards, in line with other funded agencies in Victoria, are:

  • Reduced incidence and prevalence of Sexually Transmissible Infections/ Blood Borne Viruses (STI/BBV)
  • Increase in early detection and treatment of STI/BBV
  • Increased best-practice sexual and reproductive health services
