Research: Unintended Pregnancy Study in the Grampians Pyrenees and Wimmera regionsAnnouncing Women’s Health Grampians recently appointed Melbourne University to lead research into the referral practices for unintended pregnancies in the Grampians Pyrenees and Wimmera regions.
Unintended pregnancy options for girls and women in regional Victoria are known to be limited. Teen pregnancy rates in some parts of the Grampians region are significantly higher than the state average. Information on the range of options available to women with unintended pregnancies is limited and direct services are scarce. This research will inform advocacy, planning, training and service development.
Funded by the Victorian Women’s Benevolent Fund, this project will be led by WHG in partnership with Western Victoria Primary Health Network, and receive advice from a steering committee made up of health professionals from the catchment.
This research is inviting local General Practitioners to tell us about their knowledge, practice and experience of the challenges and opportunities involved in managing unintended pregnancy in the Grampians region.

Victorian Sexual & Reproductive Health Plan
We also welcome the news of Minister for Health, Jill Hennessy, launching the first women’s sexual health strategy and priority action plan which states:
“Access to sexual and reproductive health services is a fundamental right for every Victorian woman. However, there are parts of Victoria where there is little or even no access to the information, support and services that women require.”
The plan covers four priority action areas: fertility support, reproductive choices, endometriosis, polycycstic ovary syndrome and menopause, and sexual health. The Government announced it will be supported by $6.6 million in new funding.
We look forward to sharing news about how this plan will apply to our region. If you would like a copy of the plan, please contact Shannon Hill at email@example.com or 5322 4100.
