Tell Your Story – Disaster, Recovery and Resilience in the Grampians

Tell Your Story: Disaster, Recovery, and Resilience (TYS DRR) is a project that aims to listen to and gather the lived experience stories of women, men and gender diverse people across the Grampians region who experienced the 2024 and 2025 bushfires. Local stories of disaster, resilience and recovery are powerful tools for change and we would love to hear yours.

There has been much research and data collected, post disaster, in Australia and globally but, as yet, none of this is specific to the lived experiences of women, men and gender diverse people in the Grampians region.  We would like to change that.

We are seeking to better understand and address the gendered and intersectional nature of disasters, particularly in the Grampians Pyrenees and Wimmera regions of Western Victoria.  By listening and learning from local experiences we can better prepare for future events, at both a community and organisational level, in a way that considers the specific needs and concerns of women and gender diverse people.

Tell Your Story DRR is an opportunity for women, men and gender diverse people to share their experiences by reflecting on:

    • The strengths of local community coming together
    • The challenges they faced
    • How the community can be better prepared for future events
How can I be involved?

There a few different ways that you can be involved in the project:

  • Survey – this is open to any community members that were impacted or have lived experience of the 2024 and 2025 bushfires in our region.

    Complete survey here.

If you wish to take part in this project but are unable to complete the online survey due to disability or any other reason, please email claire@whg.org.au or call our office on 5322 4100 so we can help you complete the survey in a different way that is easier for you.

  • One on one interview – If none of the above work for you or you have more you would like to tell us we can do an interview. Please email claire@whg.org.au or call our office on 5322 4100 to arrange this.

If you would like to know more about participating in this project please read our Participant Information Guide.
